Pharmacopoeia
An official collection of quality standards for medicines and their ingredients, published by an authority: monographs with tests, methods and acceptance criteria, plus general chapters. Examples include the USP-NF, the European Pharmacopoeia and the British Pharmacopoeia.
Why it matters on a certificate
When a certificate claims a material is "USP grade" or "Ph. Eur.", it is claiming conformance to that pharmacopoeia's monograph. The claim binds the certificate to a specific set of tests and limits. A certificate that names a pharmacopoeia but omits monograph tests, or prints looser limits, is making a claim its own contents do not support.
A worked example
A certificate states "complies with USP" for a material whose monograph lists an assay range. The certificate prints its own wider in-house range instead. The claimed standard and the printed limit disagree, and that disagreement is a finding regardless of the result.
